Ok, so after having only a manageable handful of firearms since we left Oklahoma, I'm going to be expanding my collection by a rifle, something for concealed carry (haven't decided which one just yet, want to try a couple out first), and a 1911--was thinking Ruger's version, until I saw the S&W 9 mil version. ::froth:: Anyway, since I can only purchase one gun every 30 days in the People's Republic of California ::gag::... you'd think it was a frikin wonder or something... the collection won't be expanding too quickly, but I'm looking forward to having a few other fun things to plunk with. Other collectors, feel free to weigh in. I'm not out for the most expensive rig, since I don't compete anymore. I *might* decide to get back into competition later on down the road, but right now, I'm just looking for fun stuff--hence the frothiness over the 9 mil 1911. We already have stopping power in the 50 cal.

California -- you can have a cache of weapons, but you have to build it slowly. WTF kind of half-ass law is that?
I personally wonder why you don't have a shotgun or an assault rifle yet. Seems like you already have quite a few handguns.

We have a cal compliant AR-15. We're not really interested in acquiring a shotgun, though I have shot skeet once with a 12 gauge. Fun. LOL

The house is rigged like Fort Knox. Any threats to our safety and lives WILL be "taken care of". I'm a huge proponent of no nonsense self defense, stand-your-ground/castle laws, etc. It's not necessarily to get across the tongue in cheek idea that people shouldn't fuck with me, hahaha. It's to get the idea across to scum sucking sub-human criminal thugs that I am not, will not be a victim, my household is not going to be a profitable target, and attempting to victimize me will not end well. For the thug. I think more people should be as militant about their own safety and security in this day and age. It ain't friggin Leave it to Beaver out there anymore, and the police can't magically transport themselves to the scene of a crime in time to save your ass from being mugged, raped, stabbed, shot, maimed, and left for dead. But mostly, target shooting is fun.

Have you ever had a chance to shoot any black powder rifles or pistols? They are awesome for knock down power ! Kinda like throwin' a boulder at a tweety bird ! I use a .44 remmington 1858 new army pistol and a .54 thompson arms muzzle loader. When speed is needed I use my .44 Marlin lever action w/240 grn gold dots. 10 rounds down range fast and on target! OohRah !

Awesome. I have actually always wanted to try black powder, just haven't been anywhere with the goodies available to give it a whirl. Some day, it will happen. And then I'll probably want to add something of the sort to my collection. LOL

Rand, you've got me curious. Does California have a Make My Day law like they do in Colorado?

You'd think our lawmakers would be a little more tactful with their writing of the names of laws. Strangely enough though (maybe), I actually support Castle Doctrine laws. Strangers shouldn't be in anyone's home without permission -- I don't care if they are just there to sniff your underwear, you should have the right to give them extra ventilation for being in your home without permission. "Speed holes"

We have a castle law, which is surprising enough for this rotten state.
I spotted this nauseating snippet when I was looking through some castle doctrine info earlier:
Duty to retreat clauses are ridiculous. How about a duty not to mug people or burglarize their homes? And in my case, with a bad back, some people aren't ABLE to flee. My kickboxing days are long gone, thanks to bulging, degenerating disks in the lower spine.
This is the best case for the actual make my day law:
Edit: ::high5 Phae:: LMAO Sniffing underwear...

See, here's where I think the hippie liberals of the world completely fail. Retreat clauses? Really? Like now you've got to let the dude who might have killed you and your family get off scot free because if you shoot the burgaler / killer before that person commits the crime, it's somehow unfair?
Yeah, how's about they don't commit the crime in the first place? I have all the compassion in the world for non-violent offenders, especially when it comes to things like drug law -- but if someone breaks into someone elses' house, it's obvious they don't think the rules of society apply to them.
Funny thing about crime rates though: I subscribe to the Frakonomics school of thought that birth control for low-income and undereducated women has directly contributed to the overall drop in crime in this country between the 1980's and today.
I don't think some crazy bastard isn't going to rob my home because he's scared of getting shot (or in my case, cut in half) -- but fewer people born into abject poverty would seem to point towards lower crime.

Sorry that you live in the Socialist Republic of Confused Californians. But as for guns I really like my P95 Ruger very accurate and dependable. My favorite one is my Desert Eagle 40cal. (baby eagle) very heavy but that is what helps with recoil (not much of a glock fan). If you want complete home security I recommend a 12 gage combat shotgun , It will take care of anybody living or walking dead.

I agree with Wulfgar nothing says beware like the sound of a pump shotgun ratcheting and with the new frangible rounds you don't have to worry about over penetration! They dump all their energy on impact!
