This would most likely take up the majority of my upper-and-mid back, in order to show all the detail. And I figured, why not show my design (all Photoshop -- more layers than I can count) to a bunch of people I barely or don't know at all?!?! Fun times. Prizes for anyone who recognizes the underlying symbol (by prizes I mean smilies ) -- the rest is a combination of 4 different languages and symbols. Anyone who has had work done have an idea how much a piece this big would cost? Attachments:

Wow. That's a lot of ink. I recognize Elvish around the perimeter. (Looks like 7 and 9 o'clock are identical?) Chinese around the Yin Yang. Sorry, but the quotes in the semi-circles are obscure to me. (And frankly without any real meaning to me. Sorry.) The tattoo would have to be huge to make the semi-circle text readable. I had to zoom in so much to read it, it would have to be 2 foot wide. Oh, and looks like Greek around the Yin/Yang. The three symbols look like something from StarGate.
It definitely would require some explanation!

Saturday I did my first self inflicted tattoo, I didnt do too bad for my first time, and I still have shading and coloring to do. This is what I modeled it after, I will upload pics of what I have so far tomorrow.

Holy cow. I know planetary symbols when I see 'em, and the lettering, but definitely curious as to the entire explanation. I'm way too chicken and too much of a wuss to be getting myself all inked up. ;D

Alchemy...Just keep in mind the idea of circulation of power, where you want that power to go, what you want to do with it, and that you must replace with something of equal measure. Make sure that is the circle (with those symbols) you want on your body as you wont be able to easily remove it.... Im guessing you're an anime FMA fan

As for the cost, you are looking at somewhere around $200.00. Keep in mind that the text on it is very small, so it wont be readable.

Prices do vary depending on where you are. I know in my neck of the woods it would cost around 200 in N.C..
But yeah with all of the detail in that dragon 900 might be about right here too.

a lot depends also if you do it monchrome or color
My daughter has a circle of life around each ankle. The first one, done 10 years ago, cost her 200. It is very intricate with lots of color. The second one is simpler in some ways and cost her about the same.
the first artist was internationally known and did only a few commissions a year. you can see the quality in his work.

OMG, so much thanks to everyone who responded... I really appreciate the support! BigKif: You're right that 7 and 9 are identical in the outer text. The Yin Yang however, is not a Ying Yang, but a Chinese Alchemical Taijitu. Good call on the Greek, but I certainly hope it won't have to be larger than my back (I'm not a huge dude) to read the smaller English text. @kingtower: omg man, I'm not sure I could ever do it myself... that's some skill. @rand: There's a few symbols in there that can be read as planetary for sure, but they actually all have dual meanings with things on *this* planet. isolde: Did you mean FMA brotherhood? In the most important ways to me, it's quite different from FMA. The lovely thing about that circle is where it goes and where it draws power from. I'm no expert -- but Mother Earth has pulled me out of some jams, and I hope to all powers that be that I've done well by her in equivalent exchange. This is to a large extent about cementing that bond, and cementing the fact that I've quite literally been resurrected 3 times in a hospital in my (relatively) young life. Chiles knows, he actually was the one who saved my life the most recent time. I'm aware of the darker symbolism too -- and like it or not, that's also a big part of who I've been and who I am. @ravilla: That's an absolutely wonderful-looking dragon... I'm a fan. As for the price, yeah -- thanks, I'm hoping it's around there. Will be seeing the artist my friends are tight with (he owns the shop) probably early next week... so then I'll get a better idea. I'll keep the rest of the details hanging... will share Saturday or whenever we're all nice and transitioned plus I'll be done writing this extremely difficult-to-fit-to-10-pages mega-grant.
