For those of us of any faith, and even those who are not:
Have you ever truly wondered if you were wrong?
I especially know I have. I've questioned my faith dozens of times; sometimes more so than others.
For those who believe in a single god: have you ever wondered if there is a god?
For those who do not believe in a god: have you ever felt that there is a god, or felt something that would lead you to confusion?
And for others (I don't mean to categorize anyone, but I'm just trying to cover the basics): have you ever thought that what you do isn't even true?
And I'll add the question: to what extent? Was it just a thought, or did you at one point really struggle with your convictions?

I started that whole ball rolling in the other thread, so my answer is obvious. LOL For a while, I identified as Gnostic Christian, I think because of some things my mother and I were looking into, that just happened to help her through a particularly rough patch. Dad's always been a frustrating bump on a log in his own right, so I was mostly just trying to help the maternal unit out. That got me to thinking about what *I* really wanted to identify as. Obviously, I haven't found it yet.

How were you raised? I might have missed it, but I'm curious, now.
And what are your parents?

Um... well mother was born into the Mormon church, her mother practiced but she did not. I most certainly did not, though I did have a chance to ask grandma questions about it before she passed years and years ago. I think as a college class assignment.
Dad is .. an oddity in his own right. He believes that there is a God, or a creator, so he doesn't classify himself as agnostic. And since he does believe in "something" of the sort, he's not atheist. I forget which church he grew up attending, but remember snippets of a funny story he gets a kick out of telling from when he was a little kid. Apparently his mom and dad went to different churches, and one day, he went home and said, according to his mother's church, his dad was "going to hell" for going to a different church. That was the last time my dad was allowed to go to that church. LOL
Anyway, I can count the number of times I've been to any church on one hand. Mostly for weddings, and one time with the ex, just cause. He was Church of Christ--and started trying to put the bug in my ear about how their womenfolk wore their hair long, weren't supposed to cut it, and they're supposed to wear dresses, that kinda thing. Well, you've seen pictures. Obviously, even before I realized I am "the way I am", I wasn't having any of that submissive crap. LOL
Basically, if there's a hint of a requirement for submissiveness of one sex to the other (obviously in a patriarchal society, the women typically get the short end of that stick), if there's a hint of anything that says my way or the highway to hell, I'm pretty well turned off.
As low maintenance as I am, I'm a pretty picky shopper in this particular area. I know, I feel like I'm at a buffet line here, but... well. There ya go. LOL

I want to answer your questions Max, but something is telling me that I may answer them incorrectly.
I'll just say that something is happening in a spiritual way with me as of late, not sure what it is yet but it feels right, I've been taking in as much knowledge as possible for some reason that I cannot explain. I'm seeing and starting to understand things that not long ago, would've brought doubt to my mind.
it's exciting and these are exciting times we are living in right now.

Doornail, that's really cool! I encourage you to keep looking.
Rand, that's very interesting. So was your father a nondenominational Christian, or simply a monotheistic believer?

After probably more cussing and taking names in vain than is safe for my soul this past week alone, I have returned! To answer your question, finally, simply a believer, though he doesn't doubt that there was a historical figure that existed by the name Jesus. Who he was and what he did was more than likely so misinterpreted, convoluted and twisted to suit the needs of different denominations, the paternal unit has apparently been quite a different minded thinker for many many years now. We actually just had another chuckle today on the way home from the gun show about the story where he told his dad he was going to hell. Apparently it was a Church of Christ that said it. I was making a comment on the way home about a Coptic church that was being renovated right up the street from us. They're making it pretty fancy schmancy, and it's not even finished yet....
