Have you seen it yet? Do you intend to see it? I highly recommend it. I went to see the movie this evening and really thought they did a wonderful job in staying true to the story in the book. Granted, the movie was a bit long for the antsy sort...but at 2 hours, 22 minutes...the story was well played. I definitely had no problem sitting there for the duration. The actors/actresses were well chosen, the setting just as I had envisioned when I read the books. I give this movie a definite thumbs up, and I am already eagerly awaiting the second in the series.

I have the attention span of a mosquito on crack. A movie over 2 hours long is deadly on me. LOL
But I'd be willing to do a quick read before I go see it.
Now, some movies are just more awesome on the big screen, cause of action, scenery, explosions, etc. Is this one of those movies, or would I not be missing much if I waited for the DVD? LOL

Knowing how you are dear, you could probably wait for the dvd to come out...but the action scenes were pretty cool. They were not too overly graphic with the killing though...and I think they did it tastefully (you know, kids killing kids is just...eh). The first hour was probably a little slow going, with the preparations etc...but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Frank, I'm curious in what way was the book not followed? I might have missed something, but I thought they pretty much got everything in there. They could have definitely played more on Haymitch and explore his character; and they could have explained more why Katniss was so upset with her mother...but other than that I can't think of anything else. Maybe, now that I've seen the movie, I should read the book again.... lol

To me, the movie was, well....... It met every expectation of reading the book and just exceeded just about all of them. The book was written for a movie adaption, except for some slow parts. I believe most of the book was about her in the forest trying to survive. That's not movie material, but the directors did a good job adapting it to the big screen. I liked the added taste of the commentators (Cesar) like it's the Olympics, the conversations between Snow and Seneca, and Haymitch convincing sponsors to help Katniss. It was, in my eyes, just that fucking awesome.

well the movie was good but i really think that there were some details in the start of the tournament (when they were first cast off to the Cornucopia) that was unlike to the book, like the manner how the tributes died, and in the part how Rue and Katniss became allies. Also the movie added/changed details like the revolt in District 11, how the mutts were released in the game, that it was Haymitch who suggested to have 2 winners, and that Katniss planned the suicide attempt.
For me they should not have changed the suicide part since it was a major factor for the "love" relationship between Katniss and Peeta and an important factor as well to Katniss' confusion/internal problem. (In the book, Katniss spontaneously decided, without thinking/planning, to eat the nightlock berries with Peeta)
But still the movie is good. I think I'm just being too much of a critic (personally, i'm not much of a movie person, i just read and read and read books all day long)

I saw the Hunger Games. It was highly accurate from what I remembered of the book. I really hope they continue with the movie series, as they did the books. It was a great series and I have high hopes for the upcoming movie(s).
