I saw this mentioned in one of the other threads and thought, ooh another topic to have some fun with!
December, 2012, people. We will be having an apocalypse party in our IRC channel, by the way...
But as far as actual prophecy, revelation, calendars, Native American tradition and prophecy, have at it!

The Mayan calendar has no need for a leap year (contrary to the Gregorian calendar) to correct the calendar error, this due to its higher accuracy.

There's so many out there now that could be considered extinction events, wouldn't know where to start lol most are being hidden, there's data missing from sat images of the sun that seems to be brighter/hotter than ever, there's earthquakes not being reported and something is seriously up with the weather/magnetosphere(good thing the gooberment has control of all of it eh?).. mass die offs of the oceans/birds, an unstoppable nuclear disaster in Japan and Islam is still charging full steam ahead with the help of the UN. Many events around the globe are being ignored intentionally, in favor of the chaos that's brewing here at home. the supposed "boogieman" that is N.Korea is being played off as a global threat, that little pissant country can't hurt anyone, they'd be annihilated in one day..let them have a satillite, who cares? No, we'll starve thier people to death now cause that's what gets them to yeild. It's a good time to look inside oneself and consider living a good life, it seems we may be closer than ever to being judged by our creator. Peace and Love to all

I would prefer crazy people running around ( the rage virus) as per an asteroid or sun flares you can't shoot them.

What I'm interested in is the actual prophecies that converge from all different religions, cultures and backgrounds to somehow, somewhat agree that the end of some cycle or other is due to occur at the end of this year. Purely out of morbid curiosity. I'd pin the end of the world as we know it more on some nuclear accident or terrorist dirty bombs than anything otherworldly.
Some folks are waiting for the rapture. I just find it hard to believe that folks are going to suddenly start floating into the sky. I have coworkers who dearly believe that's exactly what's going to happen, and who knows, they may be right. I may be right. We all may be right.
How bout those bible codes? I find that pretty interesting, too, though I do also happen to think you could mix and match just about anything together if you really wanted to see it so badly. You could find end-times prophecies in Moby Dick as much as you could the Bible, I think...

What I'm interested in is the actual prophecies that converge from all different religions, cultures and backgrounds to somehow, somewhat agree that the end of some cycle or other is due to occur at the end of this year. Purely out of morbid curiosity. I'd pin the end of the world as we know it more on some nuclear accident or terrorist dirty bombs than anything otherworldly. the actual date is an unknown and was intentionally left out, so that we can figure it out ourselves. That's part of the "free will" to chose our own paths. That's my understanding, am no expert on the Bible or any other religion but I just know right from wrong as we all do. I believe that we have a soul and it lives on after our physical body, but our choices affect our soul's destination, be it everlasting joy and peace or damnation in hell with pain and misery. Some folks are waiting for the rapture. I just find it hard to believe that folks are going to suddenly start floating into the sky. I have coworkers who dearly believe that's exactly what's going to happen, and who knows, they may be right. I may be right. We all may be right. from a scientific point of view that's not completly impossible, the earth is a magnet and there are many objects out in the solar system/galaxy that can produce many times the magnetic field that the earth does and we are spinning which will produce inertia. That said, found this about the rapture. Most Christian writings, when it comes to the world's reaction regarding the rapture, paint a picture of total ignorance of what has happened. The common understanding is, in order to have the Antichrist come to power, a blanket of ignorance needs to be thrown over all tribulation events. The unsaved typically say, "Where did everyone go?" This thought process has dominated rapture writings for the past 25 years. I believe the whole purpose of the rapture is to get people's attention. In contrast to what some authors think, information about the rapture permeates society, so much so that the occurrence of the rapture will likely cause a good deal of weeping and wailing. How bout those bible codes? I find that pretty interesting, too, though I do also happen to think you could mix and match just about anything together if you really wanted to see it so badly. You could find end-times prophecies in Moby Dick as much as you could the Bible, I think... I read that the Bible had been changed to suit those hell bent on destroying mankind before Jesus returned, not sure where I read that, but that would explain some of the confusion towards the scripture and books of the Bible, change a few names around and events and now you have a corrupted Bible that is in favor of evil. Ever hear of "The greatest deception of all was to make people believe that Satan/Lucifer didn't exist'? Supposedly we are made in Gods image and that we have his power of love..remember seeing pictures of Jesus with his heart burning? That's the power that can change the world IMO..Love

Wiccan's, basically neo-Celtic pagans, do not have a doomsday scenario in their faith. So most of us look to science. The sun will eventually begin to die and will become a red giant and engulf the Earth,in about 10 billion years or so, give or take. Humans will be long gone by then. Remember, the meek will inherit the Earth. The rest of us will go to the stars.

Thought I would share this mythos with you as well, since it fits with my ancestry: Ragnarok by Micha F. Lindemans Ragnarok ("Doom of the Gods"), also called Gotterdammerung, means the end of the cosmos in Norse mythology. It will be preceded by Fimbulvetr, the winter of winters. Three such winters will follow each other with no summers in between. Conflicts and feuds will break out, even between families, and all morality will disappear. This is the beginning of the end. The wolf Skoll will finally devour the sun, and his brother Hati will eat the moon, plunging the earth [into] darkness. The stars will vanish from the sky. The cock Fjalar will crow to the giants and the golden cock Gullinkambi will crow to the gods. A third cock will raise the dead. The earth will shudder with earthquakes, and every bond and fetter will burst, freeing the terrible wolf Fenrir. The sea will rear up because Jormungand, the Midgard Serpent, is twisting and writhing in fury as he makes his way toward the land. With every breath, Jormungand will stain the soil and the sky with his poison. The waves caused by the serpent's emerging will set free the ship Naglfar, and with the giant Hymir as their commander, the giants will sail towards the battlefield. From the realm of the dead a second ship will set sail, and this ship carries the inhabitants of hell, with Loki as their helmsman. The fire giants, led by the giant Surt, will leave Muspell in the south to join against the gods. Surt, carrying a sword that blazes like the sun itself, will scorch the earth. Meanwhile, Heimdall will sound his horn, calling the sons of Odin and the heroes to the battlefield. From all the corners of the world, gods, giants, dwarves, demons and elves will ride towards the huge plain of Vigrid ("battle shaker") where the last battle will be fought. Odin will engage Fenrir in battle, and Thor will attack Jormungand. Thor will victorious, but the serpent's poison will gradually kill the god of thunder. Surt will seek out the swordless Freyr, who will quickly succumb to the giant. The one-handed Tyr will fight the monstrous hound Garm and they will kill each other. Loki and Heimdall, age-old enemies, will meet for a final time, and neither will survive their encounter. The fight between Odin and Fenrir will rage for a long time, but finally Fenrir will seize Odin and swallow him. Odin's son Vidar will at once leap towards the wolf and kill him with his bare hands, ripping the wolf's jaws apart. Then Surt will fling fire in every direction. The nine worlds will burn, and friends and foes alike will perish. The earth will sink into the sea. After the destruction, a new and idyllic world will arise from the sea and will be filled with abundant supplies. Some of the gods will survive, others will be reborn. Wickedness and misery will no longer exist and gods and men will live happily together. The descendants of Lif and Lifthrasir will inhabit this earth. Ragnarök does not mean "Twilight of the Gods"; that phrase is the result of a famous mistranslation. "Ragnarökr" or "Ragnarøkr" means "doom of the powers" or "destruction of the powers" (where "powers" means "gods"). Freely stolen from: www.pantheon.org/articles/r/ragnarok.html

As stolen from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_of_RevelationThere's a common theme, revolving around a final great battle, angels, demons, beasts, all manner of vivid imagery that's somewhat similar. War, trials and tribulations, final judgment, and ultimately peace. Christianity is pretty infamous for ripping off the traditions, important figures, feast days, etc. of the pagan beliefs that came before it to make conversion easier. So we see the Norse Ragnarok, and Christian Revelation. Anyone else?

Absolutely Heart Sister.
Many themes are common throughout various faiths.
Hell, an Alien Invasion or an EMS pulse fit just right in.
