So I'll start with 2 movies that I happened to go see this weekend. First up is ::cringe:: "Magic Mike". Don't ask, I was practically forced to go see this movie. In my opinion, the story line was lacking in depth, the acting was mediocre, and the eye candy was just that...eye candy. There were some funny spots (the big Tarzan looking dude could barely dance, which made watching him pretty hysterical and Matthew Mcconaughey was the only redeeming thing about this movie in my opinion. He played the part of Dallas very well, with that intense look and perfect abs that he is well known for. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it unless you are a Mcconaughey fan or just like eye candy. Next is "Rock of Ages"...the 80's style flick that anyone of my age could have an appreciation for. Overall, the movie was entertaining...some of the acting could be considered cheesy, but the multiple love stories were endearing. I must say, and I actually did in irc....Tom Cruise's portrayal of Staycee Jaxx was phenomenal. He really did put all of his energy into the role, totally immersing himself into the acting...I'd love to compare him to Johnny Depp in any of his superb roles...especially Captain Jack Sparrow. The music was great...it was really wonderful being brought back to my years as a teenager, teasing my hair with a comb, aqua net hairspray and a blow dryer.... Next up...I'm hoping to see Abe Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, but I've yet to even see The Avengers! I MUST get to the movies more...there's a long list that I have yet to see....

Avengers was, in every definition of the term, a major blockbuster. Plenty of action and explosions, superb special effects, and some fun lines. But, the only actual character development was Tony Stark/Iron Man, and it wasn't much. The movie was pretty predictable, and there was no real sense of apprehension. Overall, good fun movie; no true cinematic value.

Ghost Rider 2. If it wasn't for CG action it would have been at best a B movie.

I hope you didn't see the first Ghost Rider before going to see the 2nd one... there's no excuse for even thinking #2 wouldn't suck donkey taint if you saw the first one #1 was quite possibly one of the most horrible movies of all time, on my list at least.

Well, you made the topic Ama, so I'm going to say something about a movie...
The Final Countdown
It a movie about how the USS Nimitz went back in time a day before the Attack on Pearl Harbor. The skipper had to decide wheither to interfere and stop the japenese attack force he knew was coming and change history, or leave it to play out on it's own.
I can tell you the plot sucked... and the CG effects are horrible by today standards, but were cutting edge when the movie first came out. The movie is basicly military tech porn... A bunch of planes taking off and landing and the ship doing some cool manuvers.
I'll admit that the night I watched it, I seriously couldn't stop watching it. Had to finish the movie before I went to bed.
If you want to watch something which is basicly the longest recrutment ad in history, feel free to watch it. I loved it, but then again I'm a navy freak, so I would like watching it.

**SPOILERS**
The Expendables was NOT a good film. A gang of mercenaries, each member with a discernable voice, heading over to a typical Central American dictatorship to overthrow the corrupt government. They win. Come on, what did you expect? A story so typical it isn't even funny, and the lame attempts to make it slightly romantic/funny did not work. The effects were rather bad, and the camera work shoddy. Bad movie, baaad movie!
Well, all is forgiven...
The Expendables 2, with pretty much the same cast as the first, returns with a bang! Now, with tuned up effects, stable camera work, better acting, cameos that HAD A POINT, great fight scenes and... some ORIGINALITY, the film is bigger, bolder and so much better than the first. The comedic scenes actually work, no soppy romance scenes, you will laugh, cringe and feel the adrenalin rush as the screen, almost literally, explodes. The acting is pretty standard, don't expect Oscar-level performances, this is a pure action flick from the get-go. The direction and camerawork is a massive improvement over the first. The effects are brutally over-the-top (not one kill goes without blood or gore) and just, basically, do not be put off by this film, just because the first one was crap. This is a great action movie - do not miss out!
