There is a prophesy that a Pope will emerge and take as his name the baptismal name of a previous pontiff whose reign was Christ's years in days . This Pope will bring about understanding and tolerance . He will promote unity . He will foster and care for all peoples . But alas he will be burned by a witch and we will all be doomed .

Very good. I thought it was entirely accurate on how the three branches of Christianity would come together and tear down the anti-christ.

But I would be interested for you to post in the Vatican what you believe the Anti Christ may or may not be . Could you do that ?

BACK FROM THE DEAD!
Thought of this thread with all the news this past week or two...
Tell me things Max! Will this be pope 112!?!? or Is 112 only "In perſecutione extrema S.R.E. ſedebit."... and " Petrus Romanus......" pope 113?
Also, where is Jimmy Hoffas Body??
Wouldnt it be odd if... Peter Turkson... was chosen? That would be like... weird right?

You guys, I am both physically and emotionally drained from today. What a wonderful day for the Church! A Jesuit, an American! Just awesome!
He is the 265th Successor to Peter, meaning he is the 266th Supreme Pontiff.
Viva il Papa!

When you've recovered sufficiently, any special significance in picking a jesuit, specifically? I've been hearing people spazzing (in a good way) about how he's liberal, but then others about how he's more conservative. What the heck does all that mean to a heathen like me? LOL

Jesuits have the worst rap out of all of the priestly orders. They are the butt of most jokes (usually, jokes made by Jesuits themselves). For whatever reason, they are in trouble with the Church in some way or another. (And I'm not talking the central authority of the Jesuits, but those farther from the center, especially in the United States). They believe more in testing the waters of theology than actually moving with discipline and caution.
Most of the Catholic universities are Jesuit, and most Catholic universities can barely be described as Catholic. There's a canon lawsuit against Georgetown to strip it of it's Catholic identity it's gotten so bad.
Make no doubt: Pope Francis is conservative. He has opposed Argentina's gay marriage laws, abortion laws, and just about everything else the Church says is immoral. But, because he has literally been in the slums and ministered to the poor, he has a special interest in social justice and outreach. He will defend and uphold the Church's doctrinal teachings, but will not be as academic as Benedict was.
Remember: all this is speculation. Popes have been known to turn theories on their heads. John XXIII was supposed to be a transition pope; he's the guy who convened the Second Vatican Council. It's all up to God, ultimately.

Basically, everything Max said here about Francis, I agree with. It's a mixed bag in that his Jesuit background will probably pivot the church to focus on things I care about (helping the needy), but he's still going to stick very close to doctrine otherwise. Frankly, I have no problem with that -- I mean, it's the Catholic church... I didn't expect them to appoint an Anglican.
That said, very interesting to hear about Georgetown... that would do some very weird things to that school. Me? I like the Jesuits' general self-deprecating attitude... while not quite being flagellants, they generally seem to take their connection to the Church... personally? I don't know how to say it. Basically, they are the free-thinkers, if the Church doesn't kick them out in the U.S.
Actually, think that Georgetown suit will go away now that Francis is the pontiff, Max? I mean -- boy, what an insult that would be. It's not like Georgetown has done anything but enhance the reputation of the Church, and since I was able to take courses there a few years back, they seem just as conservative in comparison to say, American, George Washington, or Gallaudet, hehe.
