Frankly, I have no problem with that -- I mean, it's the Catholic church... I didn't expect them to appoint an Anglican.
That said, very interesting to hear about Georgetown... that would do some very weird things to that school. Me? I like the Jesuits' general self-deprecating attitude... while not quite being flagellants, they generally seem to take their connection to the Church... personally? I don't know how to say it. Basically, they are the free-thinkers, if the Church doesn't kick them out in the U.S.
Actually, think that Georgetown suit will go away now that Francis is the pontiff, Max? I mean -- boy, what an insult that would be. It's not like Georgetown has done anything but enhance the reputation of the Church, and since I was able to take courses there a few years back, they seem just as conservative in comparison to say, American, George Washington, or Gallaudet, hehe.
Rand, I take it back. Phae may have out-trolled you!
That first part, Phae, made me roar with laughter. Thank you, sir.
Georgetown is about as Catholic as Nancy Pelosi--nominal only. The Jesuits, among other things, take a vow of strict obedience to the supreme pontiff. (Many have joked whether or not Francis has to take a vow of obedience to himself.) It's not that they are free-thinkers. It's that they try to dwell into theology responsible priests should not. It's not a matter of being new in methodology, but that they just don't seem to give a shit about 2,000 year of Church teaching. That's not true, but you can see the problem here.
I'm not sure how the election of Francis will go. He was the head prelate of Argentina (maybe even S. America) for the Jesuits, in charge or putting them in order. He could very well allow the lawsuit to happen. It first has to make it's way up the tribunal system, just like any other court. Georgetown has not enhanced Catholicism--just the Jesuits' ability to educate. One of their schools has invited Kathleen Sebelius as a commencement speaker---when the USCCB Bishops are fighting her and the HHS Mandate. What a slap in the face.
Catholic University of America is getting much better, especially with their new president. I'm excited on how they move forward.
